Front Yard Flower Bed

Front yard project is still going on; and our small flower bed try-outs are so far successful.

Hopefully they can survive the summer heat this year, and we will figure out what other types of plants will go well for our front yard.

Baby Dove

Momma Bird made a nest and sat in it straight for 3 weeks.  One of the eggs was falling out so I got up on the ladder but the egg was cracked.  There must have been one more egg in there as we saw a tiny eye peeping out.  Baby bird spent a few days walking on the branch before flying away.  Lulu was helping to encourage the little fella to fly.

Mothers day bike ride

Police Horses at the city park
Sheep would rather eat soft clover than cactus
A few lucky ducks got all the crackers this morning. If you zoom in you can see large barrels and other object on the shore here too.  (see previous post)

We went down to the lake to feed the ducks.  Saw lots of bass.  Stopped to check out the sheep on the way back.

What’s with all the barrels at Lake Mead?

So as they pump water out of Lake Mead and the water levels keep dropping, old debris shows up on the new shoreline.  Last week we made the news as a body was found in a barrel.  They estimate this was underwater since the 70s or 80s.  In this town, probably a gambling debt.

Here is the barrel from the news story
Here is a barrel in the background of a recent picture. Those are the same tires in the background

But as I was reading I saw the map – they found this latest barrel right where we go down and feed the ducks every Sunday.  Holy cow.  I went through my duck pictures and found a barrel in the same area.  My picture is farther inland so it may be a ‘different body’.  Yikes.

Weekly Bike Ride

We were out of crackers for the ducks this week so we rode the other direction into Henderson.  22 miles in perfect temperature and weather.  Not too many bikers on the trail but LOTS of bikes in Bootleg canyon for the races this weekend.  I wish I live here when I was younger to learn how to race off road.

I saw this out of the corner of my eye and had to take a picture. Good job, neighborino.
If you look hard, you can see an eyeball of the dove nesting right above our porch. Lulu has no idea.

Biscuits and Bourbon

The old Bank of America building in Henderson where Tomoko worked every day for years has been turned into a brewery and restaurant.  The walk in vault is still there and has been turned into a lounge.  I bet the combination lock still works.  The restaurant has a Southern / BBQ flare.  It has a nice atmosphere, except for the music. They were out of brisket but the tri-tip was good.  The house BBQ sauce was really good.  Not too salty or sweet or over the top like most BBQ sauces these days.  Just a nice balanced all purpose dipping sauce.

You are kind of obligated to try the biscuits. They are good and flakey.
Candied pork belly
Griled cheese with tri-tip. Side of corn was really good.
Smoked Tri-tip with mac and cheese.

Weekly bike ride

They put some new signs up on the boat launch.  Yikes.  They have run out of paved boat launch and have these slippery metal grates now.  PHX/LAX/LAS all pull their water from here and they have let these populations grow 10x.  They are still building houses, sigh. Duckies were waiting for their weekly crackers.

You cannot even see the 2002 waterline sign from here

Mulberry Trees

It is Mulberry season again.  Lots of flonase and zirtec required.  The trees are nice but put out a lot of pollen each year.  I dont think they let you plant these in town anymore.
