Weekly Bike Ride

We were out of crackers for the ducks this week so we rode the other direction into Henderson.  22 miles in perfect temperature and weather.  Not too many bikers on the trail but LOTS of bikes in Bootleg canyon for the races this weekend.  I wish I live here when I was younger to learn how to race off road.

I saw this out of the corner of my eye and had to take a picture. Good job, neighborino.
If you look hard, you can see an eyeball of the dove nesting right above our porch. Lulu has no idea.

Biscuits and Bourbon

The old Bank of America building in Henderson where Tomoko worked every day for years has been turned into a brewery and restaurant.  The walk in vault is still there and has been turned into a lounge.  I bet the combination lock still works.  The restaurant has a Southern / BBQ flare.  It has a nice atmosphere, except for the music. They were out of brisket but the tri-tip was good.  The house BBQ sauce was really good.  Not too salty or sweet or over the top like most BBQ sauces these days.  Just a nice balanced all purpose dipping sauce.

You are kind of obligated to try the biscuits. They are good and flakey.
Candied pork belly
Griled cheese with tri-tip. Side of corn was really good.
Smoked Tri-tip with mac and cheese.

Weekly bike ride

They put some new signs up on the boat launch.  Yikes.  They have run out of paved boat launch and have these slippery metal grates now.  PHX/LAX/LAS all pull their water from here and they have let these populations grow 10x.  They are still building houses, sigh. Duckies were waiting for their weekly crackers.

You cannot even see the 2002 waterline sign from here

Mulberry Trees

It is Mulberry season again.  Lots of flonase and zirtec required.  The trees are nice but put out a lot of pollen each year.  I dont think they let you plant these in town anymore.

The ground is covered with these
Kitty doesn’t seem to mind

Sun Shade

So the new front patio is awesome but we still get too much sun in the afternoon.  I was looking at cloth sails or retractable shades but I did not want something flapping around in the wind making lots of noise.

I went to Highland Steel downtown LV and bought 80ft of angle iron.  I wanted extra laying around for other projects.  All the bamboo was sold out of Lowes/HD so I had to order a roll on line.  I figure bamboo will let the wind through and block most of the sun.

After cutting and brushing the metal I drilled holes every 5cm for the zip ties
It is always a good day when I get to use the welder. Thanks Charlie.
Added some rustoleum, concrete into the ground, and mounts to the facia boards.  Security camera will need to find a new home.
OSHA inspector making sure the shovel is in good shape and the holes are deep enough

Another ride to the lake

Another good day for a bike ride.  Mid 70s and slight overcast to keep the sun at bay.  Some of the flowers are back this year.  Some of the cactus are still alive.  Last spring hardly had any flowers as there was not a lot of rain the previous year.  This last year was much better but it will take a few years for new plants to get going again.

Creosotes are alive and in bloom
Some of the daisies are coming back – nothing like 2 years ago
Lots of hungry ducks and seagulls. Below is slo-mo of the chaos feeding.
